Wardrobe Assistant
Merrimack Repertory Theatre is looking to hire a local wardrobe crew for a show. Hours closely aligned with MRT performance schedule. This position will report to the Costume Shop Supervisor and the Production Manager
Nov 5-Nov 24 – Frankenstein
Dec 7-Dec 29 – Christmas Carol
This position requires regular evening and weekend availability.
Pay Rate: $20/hr.
Works closely with the Costume Shop Manager, along with the Stage Management team. S/he/they is to assist the Costume Shop Manager with the proper maintenance of costumes and wigs through the run, including laundering, steaming, and repairs, and to help dress actors.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Costume Run Crew
Review of costumes prior to each performance.
Assist with costumes load-in, strike, and dressing as assigned.
Assist actors with dressing and quick changes.
Maintenance of show costumes including laundry and repair.
Maintain clean and safe workspace.
Perform pre-show setup and post-show clean up.
Perform emergency costume repairs as necessary.
Attend fittings and rehearsals as needed.
Ensure proper placement of costume pieces prior to the show.
Any other tasks as requested by the Costume Shop Manager, the PM or Production Stage Management team.
Management of Equipment and Spaces:
Maintain all MRT tools and equipment not used exclusively by other departments.
Cleaning and stocking MRT’s dressing rooms regularly, reporting to any facility or actor needs that are outside of regular costume related duties.
Community and Interdepartmental:
Work with leadership to create and sustain a thriving organizational and workplace culture, ensuring transparency on culture-related expectations.
Commit to fostering a workplace culture that infuses practices of anti-racism and equity into its everyday practices as well as its core principles.
Be a role model for the organization incorporating equity into all interactions with guest artists and community partners, centering their voices and acknowledging the different aspects of their cultural needs that may differ from established practice.
Foster and maintain relationships with vendors, other regional theatre departments, schools, and community partners throughout the region.
Provide support to Education, Special Events, Company Management, and any other departments’ projects as needed.
Maintain and help to enforce MRT best practices regarding safety, cleanliness, and professionalism.
Other duties as assigned within reason or with adequate compensation.
Qualifications:
Excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability for creative problem solving.
Ability to hand sew and use sewing machines.
Proficient knowledge of Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Current driver’s license.
Costume Shop Assistant
Merrimack Repertory Theatre is looking for seasonal support for our Costume Department for several shows. Schedule is as needed/flexible during the time periods.
Nov 19-Dec 14 – up to 15 hours a week
Jan 14-Feb 8 – up to 24 hours a week
Pay Rate: $20-$25/hr., dependent on skill level
This position requires regular nights and weekends.
The Costume Shop Assistant works closely with the Costume Shop Manager, along with the Costume Designer. S/he/they is to assist the Costume Shop Manager in fabrication of costume pieces including draping, cutting, sewing, and wig maintenance
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Costume Shop Assistant:
Assists and provides labor support in the patterning, proper fitting, draping, and tailoring of garments for each production.
Assists with the evaluation of the amount of time needed for each element of the costume construction process.
Assists with the evaluation of the safest method for completing the construction of garments.
Assists the costume shop manager in performing drafting or draping of costume pieces and costume crafts as needed for a departmental production.
Participates with the styling and upkeep of wigs as needed.
Plans and executes the dyeing and painting of fabric as needed.
Helps ensure proper techniques as defined by the costume shop manager are followed in the construction and fitting of garments.
Assists in cleaning the workroom and machines.
Performs similar or related duties as assigned or required.
Management of Equipment and Spaces:
Maintain and curate MRT’s inventory of costume shop stock and supplies, including upkeep of costume stock and equipment inventory. This includes organizing the space, and disposing of items as needed.
Maintain all MRT tools and equipment not used exclusively by other departments.
Community and Interdepartmental:
Work with leadership to create and sustain a thriving organizational and workplace culture, ensuring transparency on culture-related expectations.

3+ years' experience in draping and costume construction, or related field.
Ability to review and interpret Costume Renderings and execute best industry practices in their creation.
Excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability for creative problem solving.
Ability to use a variety of sewing and serging machines, both industrial and domestic.
Proficient knowledge of Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.
Current driver’s license.
